Video with an introduction to general concepts like: monarchy, democracy, republic, anarchy, oligarchy, etc.
In my opinion, it has some bias and misconceptions, that makes it excellent for debate
Some interesting points of view:
Republic fails when you have wall street personal on the government changing the law to their benefit instead of the people. So the law doesn’t defend the people anymore and you are left with just another oligarchy. This oligarchy fears democracy: one person one vote that can take it down and elect a new government that truly represents the majority (the people).
Against democracy you give the example “Suppose the majority decides to take ones home or business or children”. Well, a majority would never decide for this for the simple reason that they would be putting themselves on a situation where later they could lose their own home, business or children. It’s a bias and pathetic example
A republic is merely a REPRESENTATIVE form of democracy, as opposed to a DIRECT form of democracy of which the founders deplored because it is MOB RULE.
I for one, IMHO, believe both forms to be an utter failure (as we can now witness).
There are some laws that every one agrees with. Those are the laws that protect our rights. You don't need many of them to accomplish that. The US Constitution demonstrates this well. That constitution has NOT failed. It has been deconstructed. The judiciary has not disallowed the congress its UNCONSTITUTIONAL laws and the executives robosign them. The systemic failure is a reflection of the true majority's knowledge and its will. Ignorance is inaction and the majority exploits itself..
The problem with a representative republic is that it too is an unstable form of government because inevitably the representatives become and Oligarchy, ignoring the wishes of the people, and securing their office perpetually by buying votes using money STOLEN from the producers.
It's time to send the corporate fascists, banksters, and politicans to the gallows and/or the guillotine.
The way the video defines the terms democracy and republic are a bit too restraining. There's no reason you couldn't have a constitutional democracy. What we have now in this country is an Oligarchy of 535 criminal fascists that oppresses the people.
In a constitutional direct democracy, we wouldn't have bankster bailouts, endless overseas military adventures, open borders, foreign aid, or thousands of different taxes.
So if the republic of Rome finished as bad as the other form of government, what is the point? People fool themselves thinking that some perfect form of government can be achieved. The problem resides in the sinful nature of mankind. In theory all forms of government can be good. Communism in theory is perfect. A good king can be a blessing. The problem is that power bring up the worst in mankind. If you think that some day some form of government will bring enduring stability you are naive.
That's why we have a democratic republic. Well at least that's what it should be.
Good video, however, the arguments have complete disregard of human and social evolution, hence are not true. Human behaviour has changed throughout history dependent on the environment. One day, there will be NO government, as it will not be needed. If you always believe that it is necessary for a group of people to rule over you, that is what you will get.
Yeah, I agree with comment here. These are not the only types of Government choices we have. Why we living in the past? We are a totally different society now. My personal opinion is that we need a mixture of a Democracy and Republic in which all laws made have to protect human rights; as well as guard against greed. All other laws would be votes on by the majority rule.
As humanity grows and learns, it eventually replaces its old laws with newer ones. This is progress. Because of the necessity for progress nothing can be written in stone.
Bullshit. Repbulican Propganda . I hope you people are smart enough to understand the bias and bs in this.
i always thought republics were like democracy except in a republic you elect representatives instead of actually having a say yourself. i think that's what they said in 7th grade civics.
Your video is informative but your portrayal of democracy is ridiculous...
The whole part about Rome sounds all too familiar.
"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it."
Don't we have and oligarchy now in the form of corporate power?
We must elect servants that will uphold our Constitution and Rule of Law and rid ourselves of those who manipulate the law to personal ends or ignore it all together. Our government has three branchs in order to create and maintain a balance of power. Our current administration has ignored this balance and the rule of law and we must restore it. We have had our eyes closed too long for the good of the Republic.
The LEFT was originally anti-government. It started in France during the French Revolution. Also, you switched Republic and Democracy. Republics lead to Oligarchies (democracies don't have leaders).
And your view of Anarchy is asinine. There is no private property in anarchy, so your entire 'protect with your life' argument is idiotic. There has NEVER been an anarchist who has requested someone take power over their lives. You sir, are an incredibly misinformed or indescribably dishonest.
It doesn't matter whether you have a Democracy or a Republic. In a country which a private bank controls monetary policy, those same bankers control the government. America today is a plutarchy.
Hahaha
The 'Roman republic' was just another name for rule by the Aristocracy, which is what present day "Republicans" long for.
In theory we have a representative democracy - democratically elected
representitives. But of course, in reality we have filthy rich Aristocrats
masquerading as 'individuals' who we dutifully vote for, thinking that they will represent the People, when in fact they rule on behalf of the Corporate Aristocracy.
hahaha this is ridiculous. this is just blatant propoganda. this seems like something which would be shown in a school in the soviet union...
The emphasis of this video is totally wrong!
The Roman Republic was ruled by laws, but those laws favored the elite. It was in essence an oligarchic republic. The founding fathers of the United States wanted a balance between republic and democracy. Majority rule with minority rights, and a balance of powers. Basically a democratic republic.
This is a very interesting video, but it would not pass in a proper philosophical forum. These are not facts, they are opinions with criticisms you should have addressed.
